Canadian Pensioners’ Mortality (CPM) tables

A series of standard tables published by the Canadian Institute of Actuaries as part of the Canadian Pensioners’ Mortality study.
The first iteration of the study was released in 2014 (CPM-2014). Three sets of sex distinct baseline mortality tables were released: private, public, and "combined". The mortality rates were based on Canadian pensioner data spanning 1999 through 2008.
In April 2026, the CIA released updated Canadian pensioner mortality tables built using an expanded data set and several structural and methodological changes. The private-public sector distinction was eliminated and replaced by a "heavy-light-combined" segmentation. The mortality rates were constructed based on experience from the years 2011-2021 and rolled forward to 2024 using a bespoke improvement scale. The CIA accounted for COVID-19, seasonality, and also released separate lives- and amounts-weighted qx rates. Lastly, distinct tables were released for widow(er)s/survivors for the first time.
