Isolation

The practice of separating people symptomatic of a certain disease, allowing them no contact with people who are susceptible of contracting the disease. 

Isolation is aimed at stopping the spread of a disease. The term self-isolation is used to refer to the practice of someone isolating themselves in the event they fall ill.
