Life settlement (or viatical settlement)

\laɪf\ \ˈsɛtəlmənt\

A life settlement is the sale of a life insurance policy before the death of the insured party.

The price of the policy will be higher than any cash amount available on surrender of the policy, but typically less than the actual net benefit available on death.
