The CMI model has become an industry standard for projecting future improvements in mortality rates. It is widely used in the UK and is increasingly being calibrated to data from other countries for broader international application. Over the years, extra parameters have been introduced into the model to reflect historical data features and tailor projections to better reflect actuaries’ views of the future. But how familiar are we with these options and what do they actually do?
