10-year cancer survival rates have doubled over the last 50 years, rising by 25 percentage points from 25% to 50%. Despite the many advances that have enabled this progress, cancer has also become the biggest cause of death in many developed countries, including the UK. The pipeline of future cancer innovations is therefore highly relevant to anyone quantifying longevity-linked liabilities.
Cancer Research UK is the world’s biggest charitable funder of cancer research. Its vision is to bring about a world where everyone lives longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer. To that end, CRUK is financing a series of Grand Challenge projects that do not appeal to commercial biotech businesses. Improved prevention, earlier detection and better treatments all contribute to improved survival rates.
For an insider’s view from the frontier, please join us in our next Risk of Living Longer session, to hear from Dr Dani Skirrow, who possesses a rare talent in translating complex science for a wider audience. You will hear about several fascinating projects that set out to systematically solve the remaining secrets of the mechanisms that cause cancer. This live discussion will enable you to ask Dani your own questions too.
Please register here for what will be an insightful and educational journey along the frontier of cancer research.
